Class Policies
- Registration and pre-payment is required to save your spot.
- If you need to withdraw from a class for which you are registered, please give 24 hours notice in order to receive a refund or credit.
- We have two "basic" two-hour classes (Basic Earrings and Basic Bracelets) that have all materials included, but for most classes, you will need to purchase your own materials.
- Materials are available at The Bead Gallery at a 15% discount to class participants. Be sure to mention that the purchases you are making are for a class so we can be sure to give you your discount.
- Classes will run if there are two or more people enrolled. If you are the only person enrolled in a class, we will offer the class to you as a private lesson at private lesson rates. If you do not with to take a private lesson, we will issue you a credit or refund.

#1 - Herringbone Spiral Rope $25 Materials ExtraInstructor: Faith
Come learn why so many beaders say the herringbone spiral is their favorite stitch. Elegant and versatile, this charming rope design can be made into a bracelet or necklace. You can also embellish the Spiral Rope with peyote stitched motifs and sparkling rivolis (taught on Saturday, 05/03/08, 2 - 4 p.m.)

#1 - Rivoli Embellishment using Peyote Stitch $25 Materials ExtraInstructor: Faith
Encircle a sparkling Rivoli (a Rivoli has no hole - it is a large Swarovski crystal “gem”) using delica seed beads of various size. You will frame the Rivoli securely, then learn to embellish with a leaf motif. The Rivoli can be turned into a pendant or combined with another piece, such as the Herringbone Spiral Rope.

These unique beads are fun to make from felted wool. (If you have wool scraps, either fabric or yarn, bring them in!) After finishing your beads, you will make them into a fun and funky bracelet.

Learn the flat peyote stitch while creating an elegant cuff bracelet from delica seed beads. The peyote stitch easily adapts to many designs, such as stripes, zig-zags, geometric figures, or even a detail from a famous painting, such as the Mona Lisa.

Brick stitch is a technique that lends itself naturally to freeform work. In this session, participants will use beads of various sizes, shapes and colors, to fashion a one-of-a-kind freeform bracelet. Knowledge of brick stitch is not required; however some bead experience is helpful.

Have you ever had trouble finding the perfect clasp to finish that special piece? Why not make your own, using delicas and other small beads to make a unique toggle or button-and-loop clasp? Watch your creativity come alive with the new ideas when you know how to integrate your one-or-a-kind clasp with other elements in your design.

Metal & Stone Classes

#1 - Drilling a Stone/Tapping a Stone and Attaching a Bail $30 Materials ExtraThree (3) students maximum
Instructor: Jesse or Julia
Learn how to use a Foredom drill to make a bead out of a stone (or create a bigger hole in an existing bead.) Students will usually be able to drill two (2) stones. *AT LEAST ONE STONE FOR DRILLING MUST BE PURCHASED AT THE BEAD GALLERY. *
Then, the teacher will demonstrate how to “tap” (drill part way into) a stone in order to attach a bail using jeweler's epoxy. If time permits, students will be able to tap their own stones. This is an elegant and professional method used to turn a stone into a pendant. You will learn safety measures and criteria for drilling stones without breaking them.

#3 - Soldered Hammered Bracelet $60 Materials ExtraInstructor: Angela
Making this gorgeous bracelet (inspired by one in a famous film-festival catalogue) will teach you several silver smithing techniques. You will learn how to saw, form, file, solder, polish and hammer silver wire into an elegant oval, then drilll and attach a stone to create an elegant focal point.

#1 - Sculpted Metal Pendant $50 Materials ExtraInstructor: Angela
This class is a great opportunity to try your hand metal working without using fire. Practice cutting, shaping, filing, hardening and drilling sheet metal (either copper or silver) while you create a unique pendant with a flat stone or cabochon. You will receive a set of tools to take home to continue practicing this technique.
*Please bring a pair of WORK GLOVES with you to class.*

Learn all about wire! After taking this class you will know which kind of wire to choose for each project, what different tools are used for (such as pliers, cutters, jigs, benders, bench blocks, anvils, hammers, mandrels, pin vices and files), and how to make your own headpins, ear wires, S-clasps, hook and eye clasps, and crimp cord ends (for leather cord). Wrapped loops (gallery wrap) will be covered as well as how to make your own design components using pliers or jigs. No wire-wrapping experience necessary.

Studio Glass Classes

#1 - Intro to Borosilicate Glass $80 $10 Materials Fee PRIVATE CLASS AVAILABLE ($50/hour)Instructor: Max
Get familiar with torches and tools used to work with scientific glass (also known as borosilicate, hard glass, or pyrex). This type of glass can be used to creatively make art objects and pieces of jewelry. Students will learn to manipulate the glass, apply color and make small loops as they create basic pendants. This class will give students a general feel for borosilicate glasswork and give them a foundation for developing further skills.

Become familiar with the tools, torches and materials used to make soft glass beads. Participants learn to make basic round and cylinder beads as well as how to embellish them. Techniques covered in this class include applying dots, stripes, and pulling stringers.
